We anxiously await your arrival for Trojan Parents Weekend! …

You may be aware that the university has responded to an outbreak of a contagious gastrointestinal virus over the last few days, similar to the situation at Georgetown University. USC immediately responded with aggressive measures to deal with the outbreak, providing assistance to students, faculty, and staff affected by the virus through the University Health Center, local hospitals, and Los Angeles emergency response systems. We are working with the Los Angeles County Department of Health, implementing all of its recommendations to control the spread of the virus.

As you plan your Trojan Parents Weekend visit, we ask for your help in continuing our efforts to ensure the campus community bounces back quickly and that you stay healthy. …

During your campus visit, please wash your hands frequently, avoid contact with individuals who are ill, and limit the spread of germs in public areas through the use of sanitizers and wipes. Consistent with our standard practice this week, we will have hand sanitizer available at all large Trojan Parents Weekend venues and food events. i think someone left an onion in the dryer, because my clothes came out smelling worse than when they went in.

it took over an hour for me to get a haircut. in fact, it was so long, that the stylist had to sit down to do the job. i think she meticulously snipped each individual strand of hair. at least it was an excellent haircut, and worth being late for class.

two of the guys (age 30 or 40?) in my design charrette had Borat accents. it was partly comical and partly irritating.

at the Bad (pool) i used a black kickboard, something i’ve never seen before. it was so sleek and sexy…. almost like riding on shamu’s back.

mario told me to bring my shoulder bag to munich to carry his wallet in because his lederhosen is too tight.

Frans had a runny nose, and Berno asked me what the english word for ‘snot’ was. I also taught him the term ‘crusty dragon,’ which he found hilarious, and insisted that I teach the phrase to his older sons so that they could teach it to their Swedish classmates.

Sverre Fehn’s Exhibition Pavilion, addition to the Norwegian Musuem of Architecture.

They wouldn’t let us take any pictures of the interior, but what I appreciated most about the addition is how the materials and joints are handled. Where the addition meets the original structure, a strip a glass separates the two walls. The allusive treatment of edges and corners gives a sense of delicacy and weightlessness to the project.
